When you’ve been a going concern for more than 130 years, taking the long view comes as second nature. That’s certainly true at Goswick.
Case in point: The club has long sponsored a junior programme to nurture the next generation’s appreciation for the game we cherish.
For evidence, just drop by the practice ground on a Monday evening between Easter and the start of the schools’ summer holidays. You’ll find as many as 35 youngsters between the ages of 6 and 18 either taking their first swings or receiving instruction from our pro, Paul Terras, and guidance from member volunteers. The experience includes time on the practice tee, short game area, putting green and our six-hole pitch-and-putt course. More advanced juniors are given access to the links where they can play several holes with adult supervision.
Then, on the weekends, juniors who have established handicaps have the opportunity to go head-to-head in competitions — amongst themselves and versus other local golf clubs’ juniors.
To learn more about this programme, as well as junior memberships at very nominal rates, please contact Paul Terras at paul@goswickgolfclub.com or 01289 387256.
