Welcome Aboard (photo above)— General Manager Keith Martin addresses the gathering of new members at the Saturday event.
While the COVID-19 coast isn’t entirely clear, it does appear (fingers crossed) that we’re finally moving into a phase that is perhaps best described as the ‘new normal.’ And it’s also safe to say that golf has been one of the big beneficiaries of this time of change. Interest in the game, including membership in a golf club, has never been stronger.
This fundamental shift came into sharp relief this week as Goswick hosted its first-ever New Members Day. Actually, it held two such events, on Saturday and Wednesday. All told, some 30 keen golfers who’ve joined the club over the past year participated. And by all accounts, a good time was had by all.

The new recruits were invited to gather in the clubhouse lounge for complementary refreshments and a chance to meet and chat with some of Goswick’s more established members. Then it was off to the first tee, where Head Pro Paul Terras had set up the club’s new TrackMan launch monitor that captured each player’s opening drive for review after the round.

Following a friendly 4-ball/better-ball Stableford competition, everyone reconvened in the lounge for more food, drink and lively banter. Paul brought each player’s video and data up on the big screen TV for a bit of good-natured ribbing and, if open to it, some suggested swing changes.

Club Secretary Rory Davidson followed with the prize giving. And General Manager Keith Martin offered his personal welcome to all of the new members and encouraged them to contact him directly should they have any questions.

The key going forward is for all members, new and old alike, to get to know one another better and look for opportunities to arrange a game or two. After all, while blessed with a fabulous authentic links layout, it’s the camaraderie of its members that truly makes Goswick great.
See you at the club!
