An Introduction to Golf: Goswick Links Hosts Fun Taster Day Event for Women and Girls

April 25, 2022

A Great Start (photo above) — Goswick Ladies Vice Captain Helen Ringland introduces the game to some of the girls on hand for the Taster Day event.

More than 20 women and girls gathered at Goswick on Sunday to participate in a welcoming and fun introduction to golf. The Taster Day was just one in a series of initiatives sponsored by the club in keeping with its commitment to the Women in Golf Charter and its mission to increase the number of women who play this great game.

This particular event was hosted by Ladies Captain Jane Johnson and Ladies Vice Captain Helen Ringland. Goswick PGA Pros Paul Terras and David Ord provided their expert guidance on the basics of gripping and swinging a club. And several participants who attended Goswick’s inaugural taster event as well as its Girls Golf Rocks programme in 2021 returned to offer advice and encouragement.

Bolstered by that strong support, the first timers’ initial nervousness was soon replaced by golf balls taking flight on the practice ground accompanied by gasps of delight. As is often the case with golf, just one solid strike can be the spark that ignites a lifelong love of the game.

Following sessions on the range, chipping area and putting green, all on hand reconvened in the clubhouse for refreshments as well as the chance to learn about further coaching opportunities at Goswick. Several of the women and girls signed up without hesitation, confirming that the day was a huge success.

If you weren’t able to take advantage of this event and/or would like to learn more, please reach out to Board member and former Ladies Captain Sandra McGonigle at sandra.mcgonigle@btinternet.com. For example, Goswick will once again host the Girls Golf Rocks programme, offering two six-week coaching sessions starting 15 May and 24 July.
