Bling! To Goswick’s 2021 Season Winners Go the Silver and Crystal Spoils

October 17, 2021

Goswick closed out its 2021 competition season in style on Saturday with a day of golf followed by its first proper prize-giving ceremony since the start of the pandemic.

Twenty-six four-player teams led off the celebration with a 10 a.m. shotgun start to a Texas Scramble event. The quartet of Jason Barrett, Morris McGonigle, Andy Richardson and Gordon Stevens emerged victorious on countback with a winning net score of 54.

Some 100 members gathered in the clubhouse to honour their achievement as well as those of the season’s trophy winners while partaking in a meal of chili with all the fixings. The names of the individual and pairs champions were added to those engraved on the silver trophies kept on permanent display in the clubhouse. And each got to take home with them a crystal glass or wine goblet as a personal memento of their achievement.

Atop that list were the men’s and ladies club champions — Daniel Bullen and Sandra McGonigle — as well as the year’s biggest winner: Helen Ringland (photo below). She claimed the McCreath Bronze, Goswick Trophy, Collingwood Cup, Riddell Eclectic, Summer Eclectic Nett, Soddart Cup and April Medal, Hogg Salver, Hay Trophy and July Medal. A full list of prize winners can be found here.

Paul Holmes and Sandra McGonigle, this year’s mens’ and ladies’ captains, hosted the annual celebration which — due to COVID-19 restrictions — was last held in 2019.

Congratulations to all who turned in winning performances in 2021. And best of luck to all in 2022! Fingers crossed that this big step back toward normalcy continues.
