Daniel Bullen navigated the full spectrum of weather conditions as well as a very strong field to capture the men’s title in the 2021 Goswick Club Championship over the weekend.
He survived a blustery Saturday of rain, chilly temperatures and a steady 20+ mph wind to post an opening round of 78, just three shots off James Walmsley’s lead with a 75. On Sunday, the breeze subsided and the sunshine returned, as did Bullen’s A game. He fired a 5-under-par 67 that included five birdies and an eagle on the par five 11th hole to outdistance Walmsley by four shots. Seton Wakenshaw and Steven Findlay tied for third one more shot back.
Among the ladies, Sandra McGonigle claimed the title, following her opening 90 in the tough conditions with an 85, the low round of the championship. Jane Johnson took second and Melanie Clegg third.
