Sandra McGonigle and Paul Holmes (center and right), who served as Ladies Captain and Club Captain of Goswick Links in 2021, recently handed over a big check (in more ways than one) to Lindsay Gardiner (left). In addition to being a country member at Goswick, Gardiner is Chair of Trustees for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.
McGonigle and Holmes raised the £2,100, as well as an equal sum to benefit Bowel Cancer Research UK, over the course of their reign as captains.
‘The Edinburgh Children’s Hospital is very near and dear to my heart,” says McGonigle. “My granddaughter Eve, who is now 10, has had many admissions there since the age of 2 when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She continues to receive regular support from the hospital for her complex needs.’
‘The Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity helps seriously ill babies, children and young people by supporting their medical care, mental health and their families’ wellbeing,’ says Gardiner. ‘Our hospital team delivers daily arts activities, youth work and family support. And our Grants Programme funds child-friendly spaces and play initiatives, life-changing equipment and bereavement support.’
Thanks to all who contributed to the captains’ very worthy charity funds.
