Every golf season has its ebbs and flows. But, invariably, the high point is the Open Championship. Everything that happens between now and then builds toward that week, which this year will be 16-23 July at Royal Liverpool.
Meanwhile, those of us at Goswick Golf Links have Monday the 26th of June circled in our diaries. That’s the day that we, along with a short list of other top-rated UK courses so honoured by the R&A, will host Open Championship regional qualifying — the first big step on the path for professionals and top amateurs striving to land a coveted spot in the field at Hoylake. Though our exceptional greenkeeping staff maintains our links to a consistently high standard year-round, there’s no question that it aims to present Goswick at its absolute peak on qualifying day — ideally hard, fast and fiery.
Mere mortals like us can’t play the course on qualifying day. But we can tee it up immediately after and put our games to virtually the same test as those who dream of Open Championship glory.
