Greenkeepers McCulloch, Graham earn long-service awards

What’s the sign of a well-run organisation? How about employees who don’t just see their work as a short-term job but as a long-term career. Like, for example, Ryan McCulloch and Chris Graham.

Both are stalwarts of Goswick Golf Links’ greenkeeping staff. And both were recently acknowledged for their long service to the club.

McCulloch, as head greenkeeper, manages the crew that keeps the links in such fine shape all year-round, no matter what the weather. He joined the club as a junior and has worked here for more than 20 years. Graham has been on board for more than 30 years.

“Making a living outdoors is something that appealed to me,” says McCulloch. “And what better place to do that than Goswick!”

McCulloch says much has changed during this tenure, most notably the technology that can now be deployed to maintain this true links land. And, he notes, the course has grown in length and challenge, earning its place among Open Qualifying venues in 2008-2012 and again from 2018-2022.

“We’ve accomplished so much during my time here,” says McCulloch. “But there’s still so much more we can do. Our aim is the continue to raise the standard of the links in the hope it will become better known throughout the golfing world. It certainly deserves it.”
