The recipients of Goswick Golf Link’s first-ever community grant programme gathered at the club recently to share how they will use the funds to help make a difference in Berwick-upon-Tweed and the surrounding area.

Slowly but surely, the days are lengthening — even if the temps aren’t always rising. And that means a new golf season, and the opportunity for a fresh start, will follow.

In its ongoing commitment to continually raising the standard of its James Braid-designed links, Goswick is looking to augment its greenkeeping staff with a trainee mechanic/greenkeeper.

The signs are all around. A chill in the air. A golden hue to the foliage. The lengthening of shadows. The seasons are changing. And while we might not want to admit it, the inevitable end of the prime golf season is fast approaching.

Goswick Golf Links has created a new fund that will be awarded to charitable organisations that operate within Berwick Upon Tweed in the form of grants up to £500 each.

Just how strong was the field for the AIG Women’s Open that was recently played at Muirfield? One way to answer that question is to consider that Rosie Belsham — who failed to advance through final qualifying — shot a 6-under-par 66 from the white tees at Goswick Golf Links just the week before.

Goswick Golf Links — already a top-100 links course in Great Britain and Ireland, top 50 in England and a regional qualifying venue for The Open Championship — is committed to stepping up its game even further.

All eyes are focused on St Andrews this week as the Old Course hosts The 150th Open Championship. It is a milestone event. But, of course, mere mortals like us had no chance of being included in the field.

Was it love at first swing for Archie Cook when it comes to golf? Even he couldn’t say for sure. But his passion for the game, and his proficiency at it at the tender age of 14, is certainly beyond dispute — as is the formative role Goswick Golf Links has played in all of the above.
